Current Tasks Program

General Information

Bring suitable working clothes, waterproofs and wellies and a strong pair of gardening gloves, something waterproof to sit on (a bin bag) plus food and drink. For those who are unsure of where to go please ring the task leader.

The outlined task description is a guide to give you an idea of what work to expect but quite often events overtake us and we may be given something quite different to do.

Please note that some Post Codes have been included to assist those with Sat. Nav. and give a general indication of the vicinity of the task and not necessarily the exact location.

Don't forget to keep up your tetanus jabs. If you have had a few over the years it is possible that you won't need any more, but please make sure.

PLEASE NOTE ALL MEETS ARE AT 10AM UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED

Sunday 31st October

Gorley Common

Gorse cutting on the slopes of the remains of the rampart of an Iron Age hill fort.  This will help reveal the profile of this scheduled ancient monument and to create a varied age structure to the gorse and promote biodiversity.

If coming from the south/Ringwood direction, turn off the A31 at Ringwood and take the A338 north to Salisbury.  About a mile and a half north of the village of Ibsley (The Old Beams Inn is on the main road on the right), there will be a right turn to "North Gorley"

At the "T" junction turn left, then after a few yards, take a right turn signposted to "Hyde". Follow the narrow lane up the hill past a thatched cottage on the left.

On the brow of the hill is a right turn up a gravel track - this leads to Buddle Hill Car Park. This is not signposted.

Sunday 28th November

Rockford Common.

Cutting and removing small silver birch saplings to let the heather flourish on this heathland.

If coming from the south west on the A31 from Ringwood, take the first exit on the left after leaving Ringwood (sign post to Poulner).  Go up the slip road then turn left at the roundabout then right into Gorley Road, just before the White Hart Inn.

If coming from the east along the A31 look out for the signpost giving direction to Hightown/Poulner (before you get to Ringwood) Take the exit and at the mini roundabout turn right into Gorley Road towards Poulner.

Keep following this road through Poulner and beyond where it becomes tree-lined and very pot-holed.  Cross a ford and then go along another straight tree lined section.  Having gone round a tight right hand bend take the first turning on the right into an even narrower lane.  Keep following this lane up the hill where the tarmac runs out and becomes a gravel track.

Cross a cattle grid and ignore the National Trust sign saying 'No Unauthorised Vehicles Beyond This Point' Park in any of the dirt laybys on the left where we meet.
